Napier Still Hurting

Napier driving against Louisville

Connecticut guard Shabazz Napier practiced Friday and Saturday with the Huskies at Gampel Pavilion but is still experiencing pain from his left shoulder contusion. Napier will be examined before Sunday's game against Rutgers, but he is expected to play.

STORRS, Conn. - Shabazz Napier was injured in the first half against Louisville on Jan. 14. He was limited against Pittsburgh on Jan. 19 and despite a week off, he still isn't 100 percent – even though coach Kevin Ollie said Saturday, "Everything's good."

Napier leads the Huskies in scoring (16.6 ppg) and is second in rebounding (4.3 rpg), although he has been UConn's leading rebounder (5.2) in Big East games. In a 69-61 loss at Pitt, Napier was held to eight points, three rebounds and two assists in 34 minutes. He also said he had trouble dribbling left-handed.

UConn (12-5, 2-3 Big East) will be trying to snap a two-game losing streak against Rutgers (12-6, 3-4) Sunday at the XL Center (2 p.m., SNY, UConn IMG Sports Radio).

After practice Saturday, Napier answered questions about his injury and his status for Sunday. Recommended Stories
